Preparing Content for the FAS Web Team

Whether you’re requesting help on how to use a specific part of YaleSites, or working with the FAS Web Team on a larger project, preparing and organizing materials helps your project start off strong.

The First Step is Reaching Out

You do not need to have every detail figured out before contacting the FAS web team or submitting a ticket, If you’re unsure about a YaleSites feature works, how to approach your content, or what materials you may need for a project, reach out with your questions and the web team will work with you and help determine the best next steps and point you toward the appropriate resources.

Preparing Your Content

Before submitting your content, make sure any images, documents, or other files are organized and ready to share. Provide final versions whenever possible, and format file names so they are easy to locate (using dashes or underscores instead of spaces and avoiding capitalization where possible).

If you’re creating content for a new page, consider who your audience is and what you want visitors to accomplish. For example, a student may want to find information about courses and major requirements, a faculty member may need access to teaching resources, and the public may want to learn about your department’s upcoming events. Goals like these can help shape the direction of your project. Whether you’re communicating with prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, or the public, defining your audience and goals helps the FAS Web Team better understand how your content should be organized and presented. Preparing your materials, identifying your audience, and establishing clear goals before submitting your request can help reduce revisions and keep your project moving.

Revisions

As the FAS Web Team reviews your request, they may recommend some revisions or provide additional guidance to help achieve your goals. This could include having demos for YaleSites features your department may need to know soon, suggesting improvements to readability or accessibility, reorganizing content if it’s needed, updating formatting, or recommending higher-quality images. Working together throughout the process helps ensure your content aligns with Yale web standards and provides the best possible experience for your audience.
