An internal news article is one in which the story lives on your website.

How to create an internal news article for your website? Follow this how-to article and you will be able to publish your news item.

Step 1—Login

Login to your website by inputting your NetID and password. This will in turn allow you to access the editing mode Yale Sites has.

Step 2—Access the Administrator Bar

In the Administrator Bar, which is at the top of the screen, there is an option named “Content.” Hover your mouse over the icon which will open up a drop-down menu of many content types. Then with your mouse select “Add Content” then “Post.”

Note: If you are trying to manage an existing post, then instead of selecting the “Create Content” icon, hover over it instead and choose the “Manage Posts” icon to view the articles or blogs that were created.

Step 3—Fill Out the Fields

Now you are on the page where you will fill out the following “necessary” fields:

  • Title
  • Publish date
  • Category (if using a news taxonomy)
  • Teaser Lead-in
  • Teaser Title (same as main title)
  • Teaser Text (a brief one or two lines about the news article)
  • Teaser Media (the image for your news article)

Note: A category taxonomy allows you to show different stories on different pages or allows the end user to sort stories.

Once all set, select “Create new draft” to move on to the layout screen.

Step 4—Design

Once on the layout screen, you will see the title of the article and an option to add blocks. Selecting the “Add Blocks” button will lead to a window which contains different content blocks. These blocks can be used to build your news article (i.e. your text, imagery, quotes, etc.). If you would like to learn more about the different blocks you could use, then please visit the YaleSites website.

Tip: Remember to save your work by selecting the “Update” button for each block you work in and the “save layout” button in the top right while editing the webpage.

Step 5—Publish

Once you are ready to publish your article, select the “Publish” or “Save” button at top right to make your item live. Your post is now complete and can be shared on the internet.

Note: If you, however, had created the post as a draft, then in the box that says “Moderation state” make sure it’s changed to publish which then you can select apply. Your draft will now be published and ready for your website.
